Overview

I created three digital artworks for Blue Flowers' entry in a charity calendar promoting Sydney-based florists. The founder chose one for the printed calendar.

Blue Flowers creates luxury floral pieces, with an edge, for clients across Sydney. Founder and Creative Director Cecile Keogh is known for bold, colourful floral silhouettes; she started the business in 2015 after leaving the fashion industry.

Impact

The Brief

Blue Flowers had commissioned a photographer to shoot a series of self-portraits of Cecile. My brief was to turn them into digital artworks for the calendar. Taking creative direction from Cecile, I built three separate compositions in Photoshop.

Magnolia, one of the florals woven through the compositions.

The Artworks

All three place Cecile in a sculpted floral gown of gypsophila, orchids and cotton, against the same deep blue backdrop, varying the pose and the framing of the magnolia branches.

Alternative: a close, centred portrait.
Alternative: magnolia branches framing the portrait.

The Result

Cecile chose the full-length composition for the calendar. It was published in print a few months later and sold online and in selected stores around Sydney.
